{"id":287,"date":"2009-12-08T11:22:58","date_gmt":"2009-12-08T09:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.annapetrova.com\/en\/?p=287"},"modified":"2010-01-17T15:31:38","modified_gmt":"2010-01-17T13:31:38","slug":"comedian-harmonists-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.annapetrova.com\/en\/2009\/12\/08\/comedian-harmonists-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Comedian Harmonists 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In fact the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/userpage.fu-berlin.de\/~sese\/Barbershop_Boys\/ComedHrm\/Comedian_Harmonists_Story.htm\">Comedian Harmonists<\/a>\u201d took an example from an already existing model  \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mp3.com\/artist\/the-revelers\/summary\/?tag=summary%3bquicklink:more&#038;om_act=convert&#038;om_clk=artsummary\">The Revelers<\/a>\u201d, an American group, created exactly 85 years ago, on 30th of November 1924.<br \/>\nIt seems that \u201c<em>they all made solo records as well and recorded in various combinations as vocalists with dance bands, often uncredited<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Revelers&#8221; with  \u201cWas it a dream\u201d, recorded in 1928:<br \/>\n[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ZoeFnFriYnU&#038;feature=related[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>Another of their songs &#8211; \u201cLucky day\u201d:<br \/>\n[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=94rkY7i5IF0&#038;feature=PlayList&#038;p=E520C0E56EAC4568&#038;playnext=1&#038;playnext_from=PL&#038;index=21[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cComedian Harmonists\u201d were not the only singer ensemble in Germany \u2013  an interesting research went on Youtube about the German group called \u201cDie Abels\u201d or later \u201cDie 5 Songs\u201d. As the member wally1435 on Youtube pointed out about them: \u201c<em>a group of Hungarians, who found success in Germany, they were an inspiration to the Comedian Harmonists, who soon surpassed them in popularity<\/em>\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PuInfQHb564&#038;feature=related[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>The groups then changed easily (too easily?) their names. The same &#8220;Die Abels&#8221;  can also be found as \u201cAbel-Quartett\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bei Lied und Wein&#8221;:<br \/>\n[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_XTMkVw_x0I[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>Who knows, if  the American \u201e<a href=\"http:\/\/www.singers.com\/jazz\/vintage\/millsbrothers.html\">The Mills Brothers<\/a>\u201c were an inspiration to the \u201cComedy Harmonists\u201d too? It could be &#8211; \u201cThe Mills Brothers\u201d appeared in the late 1920\u2019s. And they survived all through the years.
