{"id":612,"date":"2011-03-08T22:40:15","date_gmt":"2011-03-08T20:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.annapetrova.com\/en\/?p=612"},"modified":"2011-03-08T22:42:00","modified_gmt":"2011-03-08T20:42:00","slug":"jabberwocky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.annapetrova.com\/en\/2011\/03\/08\/jabberwocky\/","title":{"rendered":"Jabberwocky"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those who know and love Lewis Caroll\u2019s   \u201cAlice in Wonderland \u201c and \u201cThrough the Looking-Glass\u201d, will certainly remember the \u201cJabberwocky\u201d:<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;<em>Twas brillig, and the slithy toves<br \/>\n  Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:<br \/>\nAll mimsy were the borogoves,<br \/>\n  And the mome raths outgrabe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Beware the Jabberwock, my son!<br \/>\n  The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!<br \/>\nBeware the Jubjub bird, and shun<br \/>\n  The frumious Bandersnatch!&#8221;<br \/>\nHe took his vorpal sword in hand:<br \/>\n  Long time the manxome foe he sought &#8212;<br \/>\nSo rested he by the Tumtum tree,<br \/>\n  And stood awhile in thought.<br \/>\nAnd, as in uffish thought he stood,<br \/>\n  The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,<br \/>\nCame whiffling through the tulgey wood,<br \/>\n  And burbled as it came!<br \/>\nOne, two! One, two! Callay!&#8221;<br \/>\n  He chortled in his joy.<\/p>\n<p>`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves<br \/>\n  Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;<br \/>\nAll mimsy were the borogoves,<br \/>\n  And the mome raths outgrabe.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The translation of such a poem is a real challenge. I like the German version which begins like that:<\/p>\n<p>DER  JAMMERWOCH<br \/>\n<em>Es brillig war.
